BAHRAIN & DOHA

Bahrain's reputation as a relatively liberal modern Gulf state has made it a favourite of travellers.

Doha the capital of Qatar is a laidback city, where the national pastime seems to be sitting in waterfront cafés on the picturesque palm-lined Doha Corniche.

BAHRAIN & DOHA

Dining

In Bahrain most dining hotspots are in or attached to hotels. The

Ritz-Carlton, for example, is home to two - the dramatically modern Plums restaurant and the luxurious Lobby Lounge.

Doha's best dishes are always the seafood. The city centre serves a mix of Qatari and international cooking.

Culture

The Royal Tombs are the largest and most impressive of Bahrain's 85,000 burial mounds. For a spiritual high, visit the Barbar Temples built between 3000 and 2000 BC.

Qatar National Museum displays beautiful Bedouin treasures. Like horses? Ride an Arabian stallion at Al Shaqab Stud Farm.

Shopping

From souks to supermalls, Bahrain has much to offer the shopping addict. Shopping is big business in Doha. The three main malls are City Centre, The Mall and Landmark Mall - all tax-free.

Getting around

Parts of central Manama, Bahrain are best explored on foot. Buses or taxis are best for farther-flung attractions.

For Doha the excellent public transport service is known as Mowasalat and green Karwa taxis are everywhere.
