MAURITIUS

Mauritius draws to her the most discerning luxury travel enthusiasts time and time again.

Situated just north of the Tropic of Capricorn, off the coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean, it is enveloped by white sandy beaches, pristine blue lagoons, palm trees and a stunning coral reef.

MAURITIUS

Those in the mood for lazing on miles of gorgeous beaches, bathing in aquamarine waters and promenading through technicolour gardens graced with palms, fragrant frangipani and bougainvillea know that all are guaranteed here.

With the water 70 metres deep a kilometre from the coast, Mauritius is a hot spot for deep sea fishing, particularly blue and black marlin, sharks and yellow tuna. It also offers remarkable colonial architecture and ruins, and a growing number of duty-free shops (it’s known as a shopping paradise).

Worship of a more sacred kind takes place at Triolet, the longest village on the island and home to Mauritius’ biggest Hindu temple, the Maheswarnath, first built in 1819 in honour of the Gods Shiva, Krishna, Vishnu, Muruga, Brahma and Ganesha.

The island’s rich cultural history of French, Creole and Oriental influences is reflected in its cuisine a mixture of spicy curries, tropical fruits, seafood specialties and Chinese delicacies.
