Blanket Bay

Blanket Bay sits on the shores of Lake Wakatipu against a backdrop of New Zealand's finest scenery. During the gold rush of the 1860's miners came here seeking their fortunes. Today, people come in search of peace; their piece of paradise. Certainly no other word quite honours the rugged natural splendour of the surrounding landscape.

Set within a 10,000 acre farm, the lodge has spectacular views across the blue-green waters of the lake to the jagged Humboldt Mountains. Its five guest rooms and three 700 square foot suites with open log fires all have private bathrooms, super king beds, sumptuous sofas and heart stopping lake views from private balconies. Adjacent to the main lodge are two chalets with each chalet compromising a further two 700 square foot suites with open stone fireplaces and a central living room. The Chalet Suites may be combined with the living room to create The Richardson Staterooms. In front of the chalets, the open-air windows of the lap pool also offer a stunning outlook to the Humboldt range. There are not one but three delightful dining options, the main dining room, the Wine Cave & outside on the Terrace, in which to experience the award-winning Pacific Rim creations of former New Zealand Chef of Year, Mark Sycamore, followed, perhaps, by sampling native vintages in the Wine Cave.

The Lodge is a brief helicopter ride from the trout filled rivers of Greenstone Valley and the pre-historic rain forests of Fiordland.
