Set on 6,500 acres on Matauri Bay, North Island, the Lodge at Kauri Cliffs offers some of the finest Pacific views known to man.
Nestled on the edge of a native forest along a meandering tree-studded path and overlooking the ocean and golfing green, 11 guest cottages house two suites each, with beautiful bedrooms and a sitting area where you can relax in a rattan armchair before the open fireplace, as well as walk-in his and hers wardrobes. Within the main lodge is the ‘owner’s cottage’ suite facing the Bay of Islands.
As well as the private infinity swimming pool and hot tub, there’s an outdoor barbecue for the chef when guests are in the mood for an in-house meal. A small office can be converted into a third bedroom, ideal for children or a nanny. The rest of the elegant building consists of a spacious beamed living room, a card room and a small computer space. Gourmet á la carte dining is available in the main dining room or on the veranda. Native cashmere on the treatment beds and heated flooring are just some of the touches that make for an especially refined couple’s suite at the spa, overlooking ancient Totata Forest. Kauri Cliffs has three secluded beach havens which are perfect for picnics and barbecues.

Kauri Cliffs consists of eleven outlying guest cottages, each with two guest suites providing twenty-two accommodation units at Kauri Cliffs. Every suite offers its own private porch, comfortable bedroom with sitting area and open fireplace, walk-in his and hers wardrobes and a bathroom with a shower, bathtub and his and hers vanities. The cottages are nestled on the edge of a native forest overlooking the ocean and golf course.
The eleven cottages comprise of 16 Deluxe units which are nestled on the edge of native bush looking east from private verandas across the golf course and the Pacific Ocean. They are in a staggered row to the north of the main lodge building along a meandering tree studded path.
The main bedroom features an open gas fireplace, superior mini-bar, large armoire with a TV, DVD player, CD player, super-king bed (able to be split into 2 super-singles), rattan armchairs, writing desk and ottomans.
Gourmet a la carte dining is available in the main dining room or on the verandas so you can take in the spectacular surroundings. Gentlemen are required to wear jackets during cocktails and dinner, and these are available to borrow. Room service and private dining are also available.
Wonderful picnic sites abound on the property; there are three secluded beaches, several waterfalls and strands of magnificent bush. A choice of delicious picnic lunches is available.
The a la carte dinner menu changes nightly and features local produce and seafood. The best New Zealand lamb and beef are served. Executive Chef Barry Frith oversees the culinary team and pastry chef Nicolas Bonnaud is a master of exotic and tempting desserts.
You can enjoy Kauri Cliff's beautiful property and experience a variety of nearby activities, including world famous game fishing, scuba diving, snorkelling, sailing, sea kayaking, and hunting for boar. Guided tours feature visits to the Ninety Mile Beach, Tane Mahuta, Doubtless Bay, the Puketi Kauri Forest, Rainbow Falls, historic Russell and the Waitangi Treaty House. Within the hotel, amenities include two Astroturf tennis courts, an infinity swimming pool with spa and a fully equipped fitness centre. Kauri Cliffs has three secluded swimming beaches, which are also available for picnics and barbeques.
The main lodge, which overlooks the golf course and the Pacific Ocean, consists of a spacious beamed living room, meeting room, card room, and small computer room.
Amid the serene peaks and inlets of New Zealand's Malborough Sounds - just a 30 minute boat ride from Picton - lies the charming Bay of Many Coves.
