Mandarin Oriental Riviera Maya

Stretching elegantly along a sublime stretch of coastline on the dramatic Yucatan Peninsula, just north of Playa del Carmen in the bustling Riviera Maya is one of Mandarin Oriental’s newest resorts. It is a heavenly hideaway set on 36 secluded acres on a mile long enclave where verdant tropical jungle and protected mangrove reserves meet white sand beach and tranquil lagoons.

All is dominated by a spectacular cenote - a deep freshwater reservoir - sacred to the ancient Mayan, and the Mandarin Oriental Riviera Maya’s centrepiece. Well-spaced along natural walkways, 128 contemporary bungalows and two-storey villas offer the calming sight of water, be it the Caribbean, lagoon tributaries or the reservoir. Each has a private terrace or garden, some with individual plunge pool and all with secluded bathrooms.

Very much part of the resort experience is the 25,000 square foot spa - a complex of contemplative spaces within a peaceful garden. Treatment rooms, including two VIP couple’s suites and a Thai massage suite are inside villas. Overlooking the lagoon and mangroves, signature restaurant Ambar serves international cuisine with an Asian influence, while M-Bar, the hip rooftop bar, offers lively socialising in style. For the catch of the day, guests can head to the beach front Ceviche Cha Cha Cha.
